How to become an airline pilot
Private Fixed Wing Pilot Training > How to become an Airline Pilot | Home
In order to become an airline pilot there are a number of licenses that you need to complete.  Successful completion of these licenses does not guarantee you a job in an airline.

Typical path to become an airline pilot is as follows:

General Flying Test - GFPT

Private Pilots Licence - PPL

Commercial Pilots Licence - CPL

Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating  - ME CIR

Airline Transport Pilots Licence - ATPL

Type Rating

The AFTC requires no formal educational qualifications to train as a pilot (other than English) but to obtain a commercial pilot’s licence an educational background in Maths and Physics will help but is not a prerequisite.

Note most Flight Training Organisations, will only do the training up to and including the ATPL.  Most airlines will sponsor the student for the Type Rating training, and usually bond the students for a number of years to recover the type rating costs.
