At AFTC there are a number of helicopter courses that you can undertake. These range from courses for individuals who have no previous helicopter flying experience to courses for individuals that hold some level of fixed wing or helicopter experience. Some of the courses that we undertake are shown below.
Integrated combined fixed wing and helicopter training
The combined aeroplane and helicopter course allows students to gain a Private Pilot Licence (A & H) as well as a Commercial Pilot Licence (A & H). The benefit of this course is that it enables the student to fly both types of aircraft. Private Pilots License – PPL (H) PPL allows a pilot to fly an aircraft without limitation in number of seats or distance for non-commercial purposes in daylight VFR conditions. The course is made up of 50 hours flying training; however the minimum of hours could be reduced based on your prior flying experience.
Commercial Pilots License (H)
A CPL allows a pilot to act as the pilot of an aircraft for remuneration. The course is made up of 125 hours, however the minimum of hours could be reduced based on your prior flying experience or your availability to undertake the final stages of training. As an example, if you complete the final 30 hours of the course within a period of 3 consecutive calendar months, the minimum number of hours could be reduced to 105.
Conversion Training
If students already hold a CASA Aeroplane, Foreign Licence or have started flight training elsewhere, AFTC may be able to assist you with converting your licence. AFTC will need to assess your current skill level/qualifications to date which are also subject to CASA regulations and policy.
